It is a spindle press that provides a very high pressing pressure due to the continuous steel spindle. The spindle is set in motion by the mechanical drive and presses out the fruit completely.
The fruit press has a high-quality press basket made of visually appealing (red) beech wood. It has a maximum capacity of 12 litres, so that enough aromatic juice can be produced. Yet, note that screw presses are only designed for further processing of a mash. This is fruit that has already been heavily crushed, which is then filled into the fruit press and pressed into juice. Presses of this design cannot handle whole fruits. Therefore, apples and pears, e.g., should be processed into mash first. Whole, half, or quartered fruits cannot be pressed.
Each type of fruit requires its own type of preparation. E.g., grapes should be broken up first. This can be done with a fruit mill or by hand. Pome fruit must be seeded beforehand. The amount of juice yield depends on the water content of the fruit and not on the effort of the operator. If the fruit is properly prepared, it can be easily pressed with one hand.
