Gas metal arc welding (GMAW) uses a consumable wire electrode, that is melted by an electric arc and fused with the parent metal. Externally supplied shielding gases protect the liquid welding joint from oxidation. Depending on the gas used in the welding process, GMAW can be divided into MIG welding (metal inert gas) and MAG welding (metal active gas).
Flux cored arc welding (FCAW), on the other hand, does not use solid wire, but a tubular wire electrode with flux core. The melting flux core produces shielding gas to protect the weld pool from the atmosphere. This welding process requires no external shielding gases.
Another gasless welding method is stick welding, also called manual metal arc welding (MMA) or shielded metal arc welding (SMAW). In stick welding, a consumable rod electrode with flux coating is used. Here, the melted coating generates the necessary shielding gases.
The welding process should be chosen in regards to the material and the thickness of the sheet (0.5–5 mm). This synergic welder is equipped with a useful rotary control to set the required welding current. The parameters can also be adjusted manually. The continuous wire feeder is suitable for solid and flux-cored electrode wire with a thickness of 0.8 to 1 mm (0.5–5 kg).
Modern IGBT technology guarantees a stable electric arc and an efficient duty cycle. For more safety, the welding machine is equipped with overheat and overload protection. The Hot Start and Arc Force functions simplify MMA welding by initiating and stabilising the arc.
