When doing metal inert gas welding (MIG), a consumable wire electrode is melted by an electric arc. Externally supplied shielding gas (inert gas) protects the liquid welding joint from oxidation.
TIG welding also uses inert gas. A tungsten electrode makes for the formation of the arc.
When doing flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), no external inert gas is required. Instead, the melting flux core of the electrode produces shielding gas which protects the weld pool from the atmosphere.
Another gasless welding method is stick welding, also called manual metal arc welding (MMA) or shielded metal arc welding (SMAW). In stick welding, a consumable rod electrode with flux coating is used. When the coating of the electrode is melted, the inert gases required form.
The welding process should be chosen in regards to the material and the thickness of the sheet (1–5 mm). For the adjustment of the corresponding welding amperage (30–120 A), this synergetic welder is equipped with a useful rotary regulator. However, the parameters can also be adjusted manually.
The wire feed is suitable for welding wires going from 0.8 to 0.9 mm (max. 5 kg). The electrode holder can hold rod electrodes having a diameter from 1.6 to 2.5 mm.
Modern IGBT technology guarantees a high performance and an efficient duty cycle of 35 %. The “Hot Start” and “Arc Force” functions simplify MMA welding by initiating and stabilising the arc. For more safety, the welding machine is equipped with overheat and overload protection.
Thanks to the carrying handle that the machine is equipped with, the 5 kg lightweight welder can be transported without any problem. This will increase flexibility and mobility; thus, joints difficult to access do not stay difficult to access.
